![]() ![]() Essentially an 8" trench is carved with a ditch witch in a rectangle. I would investigate whether you can do a "trench footing" which is common around here. The nice thing is that the building is very bulletproof when it comes to freeze heaving. Obviously faster with a crew but they would have to be paid. I did all of this in my build, hiring only a crew to finish the slab itself, and it took a long time to accomplish everything. Also, the backfill and compaction requirements are a lot higher stakes than a typical basement floor. Building a pad-style monolithic footing, stem wall and then the floor is a good bit of work, basically the same as building a house, with the exception of the height of the walls. ![]()
